Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Squabble collects, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect what we need to run a private scorekeeping app for you and your friends, we don’t sell it, and we don’t show ads.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your email address and password (stored hashed — we can’t read it), or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google.
- Date of birth: used only to confirm you are 18 or older. It is never shown to other users and never used for anything else.
- Profile: username, display name, optional bio and photo.
- Payment handles (optional): a Venmo username or Cash App cashtag if you choose to add one. These are usernames only — never card numbers, bank details, or balances. They are visible only to your friends and the people in your groups, as shortcuts for settling up between yourselves. Squabble never processes payments.
- What you do in the app: groups you’re in, wagers, tabs, messages, reactions, polls, events, and photos you post. This is the content of the service and is visible to the people in the relevant group or wager.
- Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser, timestamps) and basic error reports, used to keep the service running and secure.
We don’t collect your contacts, your location, or anything from other apps on your device.
2. How we use it
- to run the service — show you your groups, keep tabs and leaderboards accurate, deliver messages;
- to confirm you’re old enough to use it;
- to send account emails (confirmation, password reset, and, if you turn them on, notifications);
- to keep the service safe — rate limits, abuse reports, blocking;
- to fix bugs.
We do not sell personal data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for anyone else.
3. Who can see what
Squabble is private by design. There are no public profiles or public wagers. Other users can see your username, display name, photo, bio, and — for friends and group-mates only — your payment handles and the wagers you share with them. Your email address and date of birth are never shown to anyone.
4. Who we share it with
Only the companies that host and deliver the service, under contract, and only what they need:
- Supabase — database and authentication (data stored in the United States);
- Vercel — hosts the app;
- Resend — sends our emails;
- Google — only if you choose “Continue with Google”, under Google’s own privacy policy.
We will disclose information if the law requires it, or if it’s needed to protect the safety of our users.
5. Keeping it and deleting it
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account any time from Settings: your login, email, date of birth, profile, friends, and payment handles are erased. Wagers you already settled remain in your friends’ history attributed to “Deleted user”, so their records still add up, with nothing identifying you attached. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and then discarded.
6. Your choices and rights
You can edit your profile and payment handles, leave groups, block people, and delete your account, all from within the app. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights (access, correction, portability, objection). Email us and we’ll help.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, passwords are hashed, and access rules are enforced in the database itself so one user can’t read another user’s private data. No system is perfect; if we learn of a breach affecting you, we’ll tell you.
8. Children
Squabble is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, email us and we will remove it.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email.
